Harley Batteries
When it’s time to go for a ride, there’s nothing worse than hearing the dreaded click or nothing at all. A dead battery can ruin a fun day in a hurry. Harley batteries need to be strong and durable to be able to handle the conditions of the ride, to power the accessories and of course to crank over that Milwaukee Mill. A dead battery in your Harley can be recharged a number of times, but at some point, it won’t be enough to start your bike and keep it running. When that time comes, you need a solid replacement battery. The only question is what to replace it with. The tried and true lead-acid battery is very common. They are the least expensive option available. The lower price tag does come for a reason, though. They tend to need more maintenance, with constant trickle charging and acid refills. Many lead-acid batteries are sold dry, requiring you to fill them with acid yourself. But with proper maintenance, they can power your Harley sufficiently.
The next level of Harley batteries include AGM and gel batteries. Both of these types of batteries are very durable and are spill-proof. This makes them a great option for custom bike builders who need to stand the battery on end or have it tilted in some way. Gel batteries are typically a bit smaller and can be deeply discharged routinely without the worry of damaging sulfation.
Lithium-ion batteries have been steadily growing in popularity over the past few years as their technology advances. Lithium Harley batteries can be quite a bit smaller than their more standard counterparts and still pack a hefty load of cold cranking amps. They are extremely light and can dramatically reduce weight on your bike. They have a long life-span and self-discharge at a very slow rate. Some downsides is that they do struggle a bit in cold weather and they tend to cost more than other types.
